This guide is general information. Stop driving and seek appropriate assistance if the vehicle is unsafe, seriously overheating, losing braking or steering control, or showing another urgent warning.
When a regas may help
Cooling performance can reduce as refrigerant quantity falls over time. If the system is otherwise serviceable, recovery and recharge with the correct refrigerant may restore performance.
Signs that diagnosis may be needed
Cooling that disappears soon after a recharge can indicate a leak. Compressor noise, failed controls, weak airflow and pressure readings outside the expected range may point to other faults.
- How quickly cooling was lost
- Whether the compressor engages
- Unusual noises or smells
- Weak airflow at every fan speed
Different refrigerants are not interchangeable
Vehicles use specified refrigerants and service connections. The correct type and quantity must be confirmed for the exact vehicle.
Explain previous work
Tell the garage when the system was last recharged and whether any components have been replaced. That history can help decide between a routine service and fault investigation.
